Installing Auto Climate Control

22.03.2010

(Craig Brace's old guide helped me alot with this, but its no longer available online, luckily I had it on paper thanks to the guy i bought this from @ forums.maxima, he supplied it in the box :)

Yesterday I finished installing the ACC, a good amout of wiring is needed, sorry for lack of pictures, so much time just wiring I forgot to take some when finaly installing something.

What you need from your donor car (with some harness):

Ambient sensor (front of vehicle, behind the grille, small rectangular piece attached with 1 screw between the horns)

Sunload sensor (right defrost grille, round plastic top)

In vehicle sensor (on the left side of the radio, behind the small grille there, it has a hose connected to it that goes down to where the foot air comes out, just above the ECU, 1 screw hold it in place in both ends, remember to take with you the plastic pieces that the hose has in both ends:)

Air Mix Door Motor with linkage (on the passenger side, above the ECU there is a motor mounted with 3 screws, see pic below)

Intake motor harness (remove glove box, this is a 4 wire connector, it sits somewhat hidden high up behind the glove box)

Intake sensor (behind the black rectangle thing seen in pic below)

Air Mode motor harness (this sits on drivers side, on the side of the top part, its a orange connector)

And of course the unit itself

overview

It may be smart to mark the wires if yo're making your own harness, I used a handheld labeler to mark them as needed.

I started with installing the ambient temperature sensor, take of the grille, bolt it on and wire it up.

Pop off the passenger defroster grill, cut out the plastic piece and install the sunload sensor.

Install the intake sensor, remove the black box in front with 1 screw, behind there you should see where to cut.

Replace the Thermo Amp resistor with the one from donor car, replace harness too.

Replace the Air Mix Door manual assembly with the motor from donor car, when removed don't forget to take off the round piece that the old wire connected to, its a screw holding it in place.

Cut out the rectangular piece in the plastic molding (right above the ECU, where air to drivers feet comes from) to attach the in-vehicle sensor, you can take off the plastic molding by removing the screw in the middle and push the front down, may need to loosen the connectors on top of ECU

Replace the intake motor harness, the MCC has 3 wires, we need to use the ACC harness with 4 wires.

Now the fun part, wiring!

Credits to Craig Brace (I have done some small changes from the original)

Ambient sensor

Light green/black - goes to Auto Amp (small)
Grey/red - goes to Auto Amp (small), also connects with grey/red wires from the other sensors and air mix door motor

Sunload sensor

Red/blue - goe to Auto Amp (small)
Grey/red - (see Ambient sensor)

Intake sensor

Green/white - goes to Auto Amp (small)
Grey/red - (see Ambient sensor)

In-vehicle sensor

Green - goes to Auto Amp (small)
Grey/red - (see Ambient sensor)

Air Mix Door Motor

Brown/white - goes to Auto Amp (small)
Grey/red - (see Ambient sensor)
Grey/black - goes to Auto Amp (small)
Light green/white - goes to Auto Amp (large)
Green/black - goe to Auto Amp (large)

Mode Door Motor

Use connector taken from donor car and connect them to matching colors on Auto Amp Large.

If you do not have the connector from donor car, then:
Original harness first, then harness on Auto Amp (large)
Old green/yellow to orange/black
Old green to light green/black
Blank spot
Old light green/white to yellow/black
Old sky blue to pink
Note: There are two pink wires at Auto Amp (large), this is the one near the middle, NOT the one that is the second wire from the end.
Old brown to light green
Old brown/yellow to yellow/black
Note: This can just be connected to the other yellow/black
Old brown/white to light green
Note: This can just be connected to the other light green
Old black/white to ground

Fan Control Amp

Grey/blue - goes to Auto Amp (large)
Black - ground
Brown/black - goes to Auto Amp (large)
Note: Also needs to be connected to the brown/black wire in the old harness.

Blower motor

Brown/white - keep this intact, but also run a wire to Auto Amp (large)
Note: there are two brown/white at the Auto Amp (large) this is the one in the middle
Brown/black - let it be

Fresh Vent Illumination

This is the two small white wires in the back of the Auto Amp unit, connect them to the red/yellow and black/red in the small 4 wire harness to the old MCC, also connect the red/yellow and black/red to the matching colors in the Auto Amp (small) harness

ECU

You need to run a wire from the ECU to the green/blue wire at the Auto Amp (small).
On the ECU looking from drivers side, it's the 4th position (incl blank spots) on the top row counting from the bolt.

Auto Amp (large)

You should have some wires left at the large connector:
Black - ground, just connect it to the old black from MCC harness
White/red - connect to white/blue from the MCC harness
Brown/white - connect to constant battery, use from radio
Note: there are two brown/white, this is the one at the end
Pink - connect to old pink, some cars have this as pink/black
Light green - connect to light green from MCC harness (small 4 wire harness)
There should be a blank spot in the connector (between light green end light green/white, ground this to make it show temp in celsius. If you have canadian harness, a wire is already in place.
