Replacing broken Y-pipe
13.03.2010
This winter my Y-pipe decided to break on me, making a hell of a noise, so I had to replace it
I did ask around with my local dealers, they asked apx $550 for a new OE y-pipe, I looked around on Ebay and found the excat same Bosal OE y-pipe from this seller for only apx. $155 incl shipping..
This is of course nothing like the Warpspeed one, but it does the job it needs to do, but if you want some more performance i suggest you get a Warpspeed, for me I'm happy with my ride.
So let's get going.
We need to get the car of the ground, I jacked it up and used 2 support stand's to hold it up while working on it.
Now remove the plastic covers underneath, it makes this a bit easier.
To get off the old y-pipe, we start by removing the clamp on the front pipe, it's 4 10mm bolts that needs to be removed to get access to the 3 14mm bolts connecting the front pipe to the manifold, just loosening them, dont take them all of.
The rear pipe is connected the same way, but without the clamp thing on it, just loosen the 3 14mm bolts.
Remember to take out the O2 sensor, 17mm
Now the worst (for me at least) the 2 16mm bolts that connects the Y-pipe to the catalyctic converter (I did not buy a new one) the where impossible to get off with ordinary tools, I had to get my air compressor and a impact wrench, the result of that of course became two broken off studs, so I had to drill them out and get a new set in (this delayed the whole thing by 2 days, as I needed some tools I didn't have).
Then just get the flex section above the front stabilizer and it should just bolt right on to the manifold and cat.
